ScapeNotes is the Do-It-Yourself website where anybody can post notes about tourist facilities in the Western Cape province. The main focus is on tourists making notes about facilities in towns. "Did that guesthouse say that they offered meals?" Make a note for yourself or for subsequent visitors. However, we would also like the owners of facilities to participate with some self-promotion, answering of frequent questions and news about new developments. In fact, we would appreciate it if the facility owners took the first step to list their facility and introduce themselves to visitors. Any person who is interested in promoting their town can start listing and introducing the facilities that would be of interest to visitors. To find out how ScapeNotes works, may we suggest that you find the town of Knysna as an example? You can use the Map buttons in the left column (Garden Route) and then click on the Knynsa area, or you can scroll lower down on this page where you will also find Knysna (near the bottom, under "Garden Route"). Once you have arrived in Knysna, you will see a short introduction and then a list of facilities available there. Click on any of those facilities to read the "ScapeNotes" left there by previous visitors (or owner/managers) and add your own ScapeNote if you wish. Your addition will make that facility appear right at the top of the list when the town of Knysna is viewed by subsequent visitors. If you are interested in information on the whole W.Cape region, and not only one town in particular, have a look at WHOLE CAPE in the menu bar above - the EACH TOWN button will bring you back to this page. Despite the fact that ScapeNotes is still in its infancy and permanently "under construction", we already receive about 3000 unique visitors per month. Tourists seeking information via Google, Yahoo, Alta Vista, Ananzi, etc. often find ScapeNotes right near the top of the results pages. There is no fee required to join ScapeNotes - in fact, you don't even have to be a member to take part. Although ScapeNotes appears to be a bit of a "home-made" website, which is intentional, there is a lot of "punch" behind the scenes. Have a look at this section to find out more about the workings of ScapeNotes. Scroll down for the list of sub-regions, towns and villages.![]()

For any of the towns above, you can add your own Facility and ScapeNotes in this discussion forum (bulletin board) regarding for example, backpacker's hostels, hotel accommodation, B&B's, restaurants, 4x4 routes, art and craft shops, galleries, Bed and Breakfast accommodation, etc. What will attract tourists to the town? What do you want to ask about something in a town above? Mention anything that is tourist-related - hiking trails, unusual accommodation, festivals, museums and scenic attractions - question or discuss anything that can hold a visitor's attention for more than 10 minutes! The list carries on: birding, rock formations, mountain passes, drives, river cruises, wine cellars, wine tasting and sales, fishing spots, beaches, car hire, bus tours, etc., etc. - the tourism possibilities are endless . . . . . Anybody can add a facility to a town listed above - guests, owners, managers, potential visitors, aspirant travel writers, amateur or armchair critics - absolutely anybody. You do not have to be the owner of the facility - you can be a less than satisfied visitor honestly telling of your unhappy experience at a facility. Hopefully a subsequent visitor comes along and tells us that all is well now. (We may edit or delete your note if think that it is out of line, but don't let that stop you from trying!) Golf clubs, watersports, caravan parks and camping accommodation, cinemas, pleasure resorts, quad bikes, bazaars, theatres, self-catering huts, . . . . . . surprise us! |
